Since 1980, the National Council For Adoption has been a leading voice among national adoption and child welfare organizations. NCFA is a research, education, and advocacy nonprofit that provides adoption information, promotes ethical adoption practices, informs public policy and opinion about adoption issues, and serves as a resource to women with unplanned pregnancies, adoptive families, those seeking to adopt, and adoption professionals.

NCFA's mission is to promote the well-being of children, birthparents, and adoptive families by advocating for the positive option of adoption. We seek to:

Promote adoption as a positive option for unplanned pregnancies
Make it easier for children to be adopted out of foster care
Facilitate a child-centered system for intercountry adoption
Reduce obstacles to transracial adoption
Make adoption more affordable through the adoption tax credit
Provide desperate mothers Safe Havens for their babies
Ensure secure adoptions through putative father registries
Protect mutual consent and the option of privacy in adoption
Provide a comprehensive information clearinghouse on adoption
Promote positive attitudes toward adoption through the media
