In 1956, the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department introduced the first artificial ice rink in Indiana. It was a modest outdoor skating surface with an enclosed shelter where skaters could warm up by a large stone fireplace. Today, the McMillen Ice Arena is a state-of-the-art ice facility with three skating surfaces, bleacher seating for 1,000 spectators, a concession stand, a full service pro shop, locker rooms, a multi-purpose room, and a lounge area where you can still relax by the original stone fireplace.

Each year thousands of people from all over the region learn to skate and participate in our extensive hockey, figure skating and recreational skating programs. The McMillen Ice Arena maintains a professional skating staff and offers group and private instruction. We are home to Fort Wayne Youth Hockey including 6 high school hockey teams, 7 travel teams, 4 select teams, 24 house teams and 250 beginning hockey players. The ice arena is also the official practice facility of the Fort Wayne Komets. We host regional and national competitions and tournaments and still offers weekly public skating sessions for recreational skaters.

We’d like to thank Dan Metzger and the entire Fast Print staff for meeting the printing needs of the McMillen Ice Arena and the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department throughout the years in a friendly, fast, efficient and always professional manner.
