Martin Luther King (MLK) Montessori School was established in 1968 after the tragic assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. As a direct result of his assassination, three Fort Wayne women vowed to continue Dr. King's footsteps by providing equal education to all children by founding the Martin Luther King Montessori School; a quality and affordable early education program for children from low-income and at-risk homes. Since our inception we have enriched the lives of over 5,000 children in our community.
MLK Montessori operates on the principle that our children are our greatest assets. The environment at MLK allows children to develop the necessary skills in order to favorably compare with their peers from advantaged environments academically, socially, and developmentally. Also, by involving parents in their child's education, MLK strives to motivate the entire family to seek knowledge and growth.
MLK Montessori provides a comprehensive program of services ranging from full-time preschool and kindergarten education to an on-site federal nutrition program to an arts and physical education program. We know that the influences in the early years of a child's life last forever. Studies show that children who participate in quality programs such as MLK Montessori have higher overall development by the time they enter kindergarten and first grade, are less likely to be held back in school or drop out, and are less likely to need special education. The single most important thing we can do today to ensure a strong, successful future for Indiana is invest in our kids early. What we do now will determine what kind of state Indiana will be in future years.
MLK is very appreciative for the working partnership with Fast Print. Mark Hutsell and the entire staff have been very accommodating as well as professional in providing the best printing needs that Fort Wayne has to offer. We look forward to our continued working relationship of believing it is better to build a child than to repair an adult.
