The Fort Wayne Endoscopy Center is pleased to report the completion of its third year of a highly successful colon cancer awareness program. As a result of launching the service in mid-2003, the Center now regularly sees over 25% of its overall annual volume as a direct result of the colon cancer screening program. Building off of the success of the colon cancer awareness program we now have begun Open Access for Upper Endoscopy. With or without a physician referral patients can speak with one of the highly skilled Endoscopy Center nurses for an assessment via phone.

As the only free-standing, physician owned and operated Endoscopy Center in the Fort Wayne area, the Center provides screening services for over 100 patients in addition to the 250 diagnostic procedures each month. We have partnered with Physicians Endoscopy, a national management company, to bring this facility to Fort Wayne.

The Fort Wayne Endoscopy Center is proud to provide high quality care to their patients by the Board Certified Gastroenterologists, physicians and nursing staff being trained in advanced cardiac life support, two GI Technical Specialists, and five Certified Gastroenterology Nurses on staff.

The Center utilizes a variety of educational awareness activities to promote the screening program, all of which result in a potential new patient placing a call to the Center’s hotline (260/484-3111) to undergo a pre-procedure assessment. If the patient is an appropriate candidate for the program, they are scheduled into the next available opening in the schedule. The educational awareness activities are critical. Here are some of the tactics deployed:

- Tear Sheets are left at the primary care practices to provide to patients that describe the benefits of the cancer screening program.

- Local advertising to promote cancer awareness utilized in newspaper ads, Fort Wayne Health Annual Regional Medical and Healthcare Guide, and write-ups in regional health journals.

”In addition to the positive impact the cancer screening program has provided to the local community, we are also proud of the Center’s ongoing commitment to provide high level of charitable care to patients in the Fort Wayne area. In 2006, the Center expended over 6% of its annual profits to support charitable care purposes”, indicated Barry Tanner, CEO of Physicians Endoscopy, who also serves as a member of the Board of Managers of the facility.

We would like to thank Fast Print for meeting all of our printing needs in providing the tear sheets, educational brochures and patient packets. The marketing and success of our program has depended on their high quality product they have provided for us.
